Experience

Marshall is a writer and editor from southwest Colorado and currently based in the Bay Area of California. He’s passionate about spending time in—and protecting—the outdoors. He’s an experienced journalist and has contributed to national publications, such as Field & Stream, Men’s Journal, Backpacker, and Outdoor Life, as well as regional publications like Denver Westword and The Official Guide to Telluride and Mountain Village. He’s especially interested in writing long-form stories and essays about pressing conservation and social justice issues, as well as outdoor adventures. His creative writing focuses on interrogating aspects of masculinity in sport and the outdoors. Marshall’s work has been named “Notable” in the Best American Essay series.

Marshall currently heads up Field & Stream’s daily news coverage and also identifies complex issues, such as the impact of drought on wildlife, for more in-depth editorial coverage. He’s a student of many outdoor pursuits—from rock climbing to duck hunting. It’s nearly impossible to pull him off a river when he’s fly fishing, even if he claims that he just wants to take “one last cast.”
