It seems that you can't go to a country concert, a bar in Nashville, or really anywhere that cowboy boots might be present without seeing a pair of Tecovas. Heck, there are even songs (multiple!) written about them. The brand is famous for bringing cowboy boots—and Western footwear in general—to the masses, with top-of-the-line leather boots handmade in Leon, Mexico. Now, Tecovas has branched out into a new category: work boots. And we had the opportunity to be some of the first people to test them out.
We got our hands on the Tecovas LongHaul work boots, which are the cowboy-style choice in the lineup. After wearing them on the job, in the yard, and out in the field, here's how they performed, and whether or not they're worth the higher price.

Testing Results and Analysis
Size and Fit
Size-wise, our tester Mark found these to run a little large, so he had to get a half size down from his usual. But once he had the correct size, he says these are likely the most comfortable work boots he's ever put on (and he's worn a lot). The Tecovas are ready to go right out of the box—no breaking in period required. That's rare for a work boot, so it's definitely a highlight.
They fit snug around the foot without being too tight or restrictive, even with thicker socks. The roomy square toe also offers ample room. Mark wore them while working on his feet all day (10+ hours straight) and didn't have any complaints about aches or pains. The cushioned footbed provides plenty of arch support and comfort, while the oil- and slip-resistant outsole offers more than enough traction. And, because these Tecovas boast a composite safety toe rather than a steel toe, they're fairly lightweight compared to other work boots.
Construction
Just like all Tecovas boots, we could tell how high quality and well-made these are as soon as we picked them up. They're made of genuine cowhide leather, which also happens to be fully waterproof, so you can wear these in almost any conditions without damaging them. Mark wore them in both mucky, muddy conditions and in snowy weather—they did well in both. The LongHaul boots also feature Goodyear welt construction, which is a unique shoe-making method that makes the boots more comfortable and more durable. You can have them resoled multiple times without having to replace the whole boot, too. While we've only been wearing these boots for a few weeks, we can tell they're a pair that will hold up for years to come.
Versatility
These boots are good for any job, whether you're an HVAC technician (like Mark), an electrician, a construction worker, a rancher, or really anything else. The LongHauls meet all ASTM standards for slip resistance, electrical hazard protection, and safety toe requirements. Plus, as Mark discovered, they're just so darn comfortable, they're great for anyone who works on their feet for long periods or out in the elements.
But what also makes these unique—and what helps justify the price tag—is that the cowboy silhouette and stylish detailing makes them equally appropriate for off-duty occasions. A.k.a. these are boots you can wear from the job site to the bar or to date night. They're highly versatile, and can fit in in almost any room.
Verdict
There are three things you need work boots to be: sturdy, long-lasting, and comfortable. The Tecovas LongHauls are all of those—and then some. In our testing, we found them to be some of the best work boots we've tried, and easily some of the highest quality. While they may be more expensive than others on the market, they are well worth it for the comfort, durability, and quality construction. Even better? They look good, to boot (pun intended).
