Moultrie’s Edge 4 Solar took Gold in our annual Best Cellular Trail Camera field test. The camera, with the included solar panel, is priced right ($169.99), and I ran a pair on my Colorado deer dirt for two months. I added Moultrie’s $50 (aftermarket) Power Mag II battery pack, and with the solar panel, battery life never dipped below 80 percent. The cameras stood up to powerful wind, heavy rain, marble-ball-sized hail, and hellishly hot temperatures. Neither cell cam produced many false triggers, and both delivered crisp, clear images and video to my smartphone.
Last year, Moultrie’s Edge 3 Pro and Edge Solar came on the heels of the Edge 3. True to form, Moultrie follows suit in 2026. Dubbed the Edge 4 Solar, Moultrie’s latest cellular trail camera comes with a rechargeable lithium battery pack, an integrated solar panel, and an easy-aim mount. Pleased with the Edge 4 Solar’s performance, I was excited to give the Pro model an in-field test drive.

What Is The Difference Between The Edge 4 Solar And Edge 4 Pro Solar?
When I see “Pro” added to a product, I assume it has features that put it in a class above the standard model. That’s the case with the Edge 4 Solar and Edge 4 Pro Solar. The Pro captures high-resolution, high-detailed 4K video and 50MP photos. I was highly impressed with the 1080p video and 40MP photos the Edge 4 Solar captured, and I’m excited to see the enhanced detail.
According to Moultrie, “detail” drove the Edge 4 Solar Pro. Moultrie’s continued growth largely comes from its ability to meet consumer expectations. Consumers asked for more detail, and the Edge 4 Pro Solar is Moultrie’s response.
The Edge 4 Solar Pro trumps the Edge 4 Solar’s trigger speed by .1 second. That’s not much, but when a buck is hot on the heels of a doe, rapid trigger speed is important.

Two Big Features Hunters Will Appreciate
Moultrie did an excellent job with its Edge 4 Series, and the Edge 4 Solar Pro looks to be the pinnacle. I’m a fan of Buck Shot. The Edge 4 Pro Solar uses Moultrie AI to detect big bucks. When the camera detects a big buck, it sends a tightly cropped, max-resolution image to your smartphone. This lets you immediately identify the buck and examine its headgear. And with the Pro model, Moultrie AI recognizes shooter bucks and switches the camera from photo mode to 4K video. Buck videos arrive immediately. Like the zoomed and cropped image, you don’t have to request or wait for the 4K video.
Setup And Deployment
The Edge 4 Pro Solar comes with everything you need. The solar panel is connected, and the rechargeable lithium battery pack is inserted. Log into your Moultrie account, add a new camera, scan the QR code, and start tinkering with the camera’s many settings. As I noted in my review of the Edge 4 Solar, I like the new internal panel. The twist-and-turn dial ensures a positive on/off, and Moultrie left the battery-life indicator, which I appreciate. Once powered on, all three lights (Not Connected-red, Connecting-yellow, Connected-green) turn solid. Next, the Connecting light flashes slowly, and after about 45 seconds, the green Connected light turns solid green. At that point, you can close the push-button door. The camera connects to the strongest cellular signal in the area and starts transmitting photos immediately. Best of all, perhaps, is that you don’t need to insert an SD card. I hate SD cards. They are a pain. I love Moultrie’s included storage.
In a partnership with onX, Edge 4 cameras are instantly pinned the second they are placed. I have multiple trail cameras—cellular and conventional—spread across the West and Midwest. Too often, I get in a hurry and forget to drop a camera pin when I’m using trail cameras. However, if I’m using Moultrie, I can forget, and the map-pinning technology saves me.
Built Tough

My Edge 4 Solar withstood and continues to withstand rough conditions. We’ve had an extended monsoon season in my neck of the woods. Rain is one thing, but hail is another. All of my Edge 4 Solar cameras, including the new Pro, have zero damage to the housing or panels. Sadly, the Edge 4 Pro Solar did succumb to golf-ball-sized hail. The camera was facing straight into the storm. I’m not sure how many hailstones struck the photo lens cover, but one cracked it and some water got inside. The good news is that the camera is still functioning. The photos and video aren’t as clean and crisp as they were before the hail damage, but they are still solid. I called Moultrie and they are going to replace the camera. Moultrie has excellent customer service.
Moultrie Edge 4 cameras utilize waterproof IP67 waterproofing, and the housing and solar panel can take serious abuse. I was a little concerned that water would get into the removable solar-panel slot but that hasn’t happened and would have by now. If you want to remove the solar panel, push the unlock button on the back of the camera and pull the panel off.
Moultrie Edge 4 Solar Pro in the Field

As of this writing, my Edge 4 Pro Solar has been in the field for two weeks. The hail damage occurred 11 days into my field test. Until that point, the camera’s images and video were excellent. The detail and color, especially the video, was incredible. I couldn’t tell much difference between the 40MP and 50MP photos, but I could absolutely see the difference between the 1080p and 4K video.
After two weeks in the field, battery life is 94 percent. That percentage dips a bit when the panel isn’t getting sunlight, but as soon as the panel gets sun, it charges the camera quickly. I like the direct-to-housing panel attachment. The system eliminates wires that tangle and hang up everywhere. Be sure to take advantage of the twist-and-lock solar panel direction and angle. Both are adjustable, allowing you to set your panel to absorb as much sunlight as possible.
I’ve had zero image delivery glitches; deer and other game animals are centered in the frame, and Moultrie lowballs the camera’s max detection range. Like the Edge 4 Pro, the Edge 4 Solar Pro captured deer beyond 100 feet. Moultrie brands the Edge Pro Solar trigger speed at .3 seconds, and my testing agrees. I set up an Edge 4 Solar and Edge 4 Pro Solar in my backyard, and the Pro proved quicker to trigger when I ran past the camera at 50 feet.
Like the Edge 4 Solar, the Pro model improves Moultrie’s nighttime image capture game. Moultrie used enhanced No Glow IR LEDs to illuminate every image evenly. The result is clearer edge-to-edge images. The only issue I’ve noticed the more I’ve tested Moultrie’s Edge 4 Solar models is the flash. The IR is almost too powerful. If the subject is close to the camera, the image gets a bit blown out. However, I’ve yet to have a deer spook from the Edge 4 Pro Solar, and I’ve run the camera on open ag fields and tight trail crossings.
Final Thoughts
Moultrie has once again raised the bar with the Edge 4 Solar and Edge 4 Pro Solar, both of which have proven to be exceptional in the field. The Edge 4 Solar, awarded Gold in our annual Best Cellular Trail Camera test, has consistently impressed with its performance, durability, and affordability. At $169.99, it offers outstanding value, especially when paired with the aftermarket Power Mag II battery pack. The solar panel and robust battery life combine to deliver a seamless experience in demanding conditions, from heavy rainfall to extreme heat.

The Edge 4 Pro Solar takes things a step further, delivering enhanced detail and high-resolution 4K video, perfect for capturing all the goings-on in your deer woods. Moultrie’s focus on user feedback has highlighted the importance of detailed imaging, and the Pro model reflects their commitment to customer satisfaction.
For setup, the straightforward interface and reliable battery performance let users maximize their time in the field. Both models have proven resilient in harsh weather, reinforcing Moultrie’s reputation for durability. If you’re looking for a dependable trail camera that excels in both performance and image quality, the Edge 4 Solar series is undoubtedly worth considering, and if you want Moultire’s cream of the crop, then go with the Edge 4 Pro Solar.
