Most bass fishermen—or fisherwomen—are indeed fanatics. They eat, sleep, and breathe the pursuit of these popular gamefish, be they smallmouths, largemouths, or spots. And for as passionate as they are about bass fishing, they’re just as passionate about their gear. That can make them difficult to shop for. Whether it’s a spinning reel, a pair of Grundens deck boots, or our experts' favorite Bajio sunglasses, they want the best of the best. And with so many brands, styles, and options out there, how do you pick the best of the best?

We have decades of experience chasing bass at Field & Stream, and just as much experience testing gear. As such, we’ve narrowed down our favorite gear to a handful of top picks designed for anglers of all skill levels. From deck boots and rain gear to baitcasting rods and forward-facing sonar baits, these the best bass fishing gifts from brands like Huk, Abu Garcia, and Simms.

Abu Garcia Veritas Casting Rod

I’ve been fishing with the Abu Garcia Veritas baitcasting rod for over three years. The weight of this rod feels perfect for most bass fishing scenarios, and the one-piece blank design offers some great sensitivity. Subsequently, I don’t miss many lighter strikes. I like that lures like jigs and crankbaits provide great feedback on the bottom and structure. The rod also has an ergonomic grip that makes it comfortable to fish all day long. —Travis Smola

Z-Man Fuzzy TRD

The Z-Man Fuzzy TRD has quickly become one of my new favorite finesse baits. Where I used to throw a standard Ned rig or a finesse jig, I’ve started throwing the Fuzzy TRD on a Jika rig. The Fuzzy TRD has skirt material protruding through it at various points, giving the bait subtle action even when you’re not working it. On top of that, the ElaZtech material this bait is made of naturally floats, so you end up with a really effective presentation on the bottom where the buoyant bait washes around. —Shaye Baker

Berkley Chop Block Glide Bait

This may be my favorite glide bait ever. The Berkley Chop Block hit the market just a couple of months ago, and I’ve already caught one close to 7 pounds on it. It is easy to work, has a unique and highly effective hook system, and is far more affordable than most glide baits. The Chop Block is also soft, which gives this bait a more fluid and lifelike action and even gives you the ability to skip it, which is nearly impossible with a hard glide. This bait is also light, so it stalls really well and stays high in the water column. And, because it is light, you can also use it on more standard baitcasting gear without having to opt for technique-specific swimbait rods and reels. —S.B.

Huk Pursuit Performance Hoodie

This Huk hoodie will keep you protected from the sun’s harsh rays while you’re out on the water. It features a UPF 50+ rating, along with long sleeves and a roomy hood for added coverage. I love the large loops in the wrists that keep the sleeves from slipping. This shirt is also built to wick away extra moisture and keep you cool on hotter days. It has quickly become one of my favorite fishing shirts. —T.S.

Shimano Curado 150 M

The Curado 150 M is the latest model in Shimano's lineup of baitcasters. This reel has a smaller frame than the longstanding king of its class, the Curado 200, so it tucks nicely into the palm. One thing that’s not downsized is the power. It has the Cross Carbon Drag system and the beefy handle that we’ve come to expect from the Curado. This reel is equipped for both power and finesse fishing, and can be tuned for either using the internal brake mechanism for larger adjustments and the external control for fine-tuning. —S.B.

Yeti Hopper M15 Soft Cooler

Every angler needs a good cooler for drinks and snacks during a long day on the water. The Yeti Hopper M15 is just that. When I tested this cooler, it easily held ice for three and a half days. It’s the perfect size for a bass boat or the back of a fishing kayak. The tote cooler is also quite durable. I threw it off the top of a ladder several times during my tests. Aside from picking up a little dirt, it was none the worse for wear. —T.S.

Bajio Sigs Sunglasses

Being able to cut through the glare and see what’s going on beneath the surface is half the battle for bass anglers. I’ve been a fan of Bajio fishing sunglasses for a few years now. It’s simply amazing how much their lenses enhance color. I’d recommend the rose mirror or violet mirror lens colors for bass. Both are designed for spotting fish in the shallows and work especially well on cloudy days for finding bass that would normally be hidden in shaded areas. —T.S.

Lowrance Eagle Eye Live

The Lowrance Eagle Eye Live is the best fishing graph available for under $1,000. This is the only graph in that price range that offers forward-facing capabilities. Some other graphs under $1,000 are compatible with FFS, but you have to buy the transducers separately. The Eagle Eye Live comes with the transducer and everything in the box. This version of FFS is limited to some degree–you have to switch between screens to see in front of you (Live forward) or beneath you (Live Down). But to get this tech for under $1,000, when the competition’s entry-level FFS is twice as much, is incredible. And it comes preloaded with topographic C-Map charts. —S.B.

Bubba Stainless Steel Fishing Pliers

I’ve been using Bubba Blade pliers for a few years now, and they have become an irreplaceable part of my tool kit. They have the best grips of any fishing pliers I’ve used, with just the right amount of tact. They have never slipped out of my hands while using them, which makes it easy to remove a stubborn hook from a largemouth’s jaw. These 6.5-inch pliers also have a side cutter and a crimper tool for added value. —T.S.

Plano Stowaway Tackle Storage Box

Plano completely redesigned their popular line of Stowaway tackle storage boxes for 2025. They did it using the input of more than 4,500 seasoned anglers, and it shows. These new boxes have a single latch that’s easier to open. I love new, pre-cut dividers. Plano added more divider slots to the whole box, allowing greater customization of the interior trays. The result is less wasted space. Plano is offering a standard and waterproof option that utilizes a gasket system to keep tackle dry and rust at bay. —T.S.

Rapala 15-lb. Touchscreen Tournament Scale

You’ll no longer have to guess the weight of that big catch with the Rapala 15-pound tournament scale. This fish scale does more than just accurately record the weights of fish. It also saves the weights of each catch to allow for easy culling in a tournament. Simply clamp a number to the lip of each fish in the livewell to quickly release the smallest with each catch. It’s a breeze to use thanks to a fully interactive touchscreen display. —T.S.

Dirty Jigs Weekender Series Jigs

In an effort to cut costs for everyday anglers, Dirty Jigs has introduced the Weekender Series–a jig series that is still fantastic, but a dollar or two cheaper per bait than other brands’ offerings. So far, the Weekender Series consists of a casting jig and a swim jig. I caught a 4-pounder this summer on the swim jig and can attest to the quality and effectiveness of the bait. The head design is great for slipping through cover, and there are eight color choices, and the hook is stout and sharp. —S.B.

Daiwa Procyon MQ LT Spinning Reel

This spinning reel has quickly become one of my favorites in the last year that I’ve owned it, and it’s easily the sharpest looking. I currently use the 5.1:1 gear ratio version for finesse techniques. It’s dynamite for drop shot and Ned rig techniques. It’s also the smoothest I own, with six ball bearings. I put this reel on the 7-foot Daiwa Tatula Elite drop shot rod and it’s a perfect pairing. —T.S.

Grundens Deck Boss Ankle Boots

Bass anglers spend a lot of time on their feet and a good set of fishing boots can make it a lot easier—and a lot more comfortable—to stay out longer. The Grundens Deck Boss ankle boots boast a thick cushioned insole along with gum rubber outsoles great for boat decks, slippery docks, and kayaks alike. The waterproof exterior will keep your feet dry for loading and unloading around the boat launch. The boots come in more than a dozen color options (including camo prints), so there’s something for everyone’s taste. —T.S.

Magellan Outdoors Pro Pedal Drive Kayak

I’ve tested nearly a dozen kayaks this year, and none have impressed me as much for the money as the Magellan Outdoors Pro Pedal Drive Kayak. This boat comes in at $1,299 and includes many of the standard features you’d expect from a higher-end boat, including a pedal drive system and rudder control. In addition to the pedal drive, the boat has molded carrying handles, adjustable foot pegs, an elevated seat, a front hatch, and a weight capacity of 400 pounds. —S.B.

Rapala Original Floating Minnow

It’s hard to go wrong with a classic smallmouth bass lure like the Rapala original floating minnow. This thing is a fish-catching machine. I like the 2 3/4” and 3 1/2” sizes best for bass fishing applications. The floating minnow has a tight wobble that often elicits strikes when other lures fail. Work it as a jerkbait or just do a slow steady retrieve. I’ve had some good luck twitching it on the surface as a topwater. Simply put, it’s a very versatile lure and it’s worth having more than one. —T.S.

Humminbird Helix 9 Fish Finder

It’s hard to go wrong with any of Humminbird’s Helix series of fish finders for bass anglers. These finders are compatible with a variety of transducers, allowing anglers to utilize side scan, down scan, and Mega Live down imaging. Additionally, these units are upgradable, with the potential to add more lake maps. My unit has helped me find many hotspots in my local waters that were previously hidden. It’s an incredibly versatile line with screen sizes and price points to fit every budget. —T.S.

River2Sea Whopper Plopper

The Whopper Plopper has been around for less than 20 years. However, it has taken the bass angling world by storm in that time, producing a slew of imitators. It’s hard to go wrong with the original as a gift. This lure produces a churning and gurgling surface action that results in explosive reaction strikes. I’ve found it deadly on river smallmouths here in Michigan during the summer months. —T.S.

Bass Pro Shops Advanced Angler Super Magnum 3700 Tackle System

Anglers who own a ton of tackle need a large storage solution, like the Bass Pro Super Magnum 3700 tackle system. It’s a soft bag that holds ten 3700 size plastic utility boxes. That’s more than enough room for plenty of jerkbaits, crankbaits, spinners, and soft plastics. We also appreciate the external pockets on the exterior, which are perfect for pliers, weights, extra hooks, and line. This is a great choice for anyone who’s rough on equipment, as the 600-denier ripstop fabric will take a beating. —T.S.

Simms Waypoints Rain Jacket

We hate calling it quits on a day of fishing just because of a little rain, which is where good fishing rain gear like this Simms jacket comes in. The high quality Toray shell features a protective DWR finish to make it fully waterproof. Yet it’s lightweight enough to be comfortable in warmer climates. The cuff closures help ensure water doesn’t run down your sleeve while casting a wet rod and reel. We also love the slick, simple design of this jacket. It looks very stylish and is also usable for outdoor activities off the water. —T.S.

Lew’s American Hero Baitcast Reel

This baitcasting reel is a great balance of performance and price. Lew’s packed five bearings into the American Hero in two different gear ratios (6.4:1 and 7.1:1) to give it a super smooth operation. It’s lightweight ,at just 7.2 ounces, which makes it a true joy to cast all day long. We also appreciate the fact they offer a left-handed version. The southpaws get ignored far too often by the major tackle manufacturers. For under $70, this reel is a true bargain. —T.S.

Columbia PFG Castback Water Shoes

Some anglers prefer more traditional footwear over boots, which can get sweaty in hot weather. Columbia’s Castback water shoes are a great alternative. The mesh upper is highly breathable for fishing in hot weather. These shoes are made for getting dirty but are still stylish enough to be worn for casual social events. —T.S.

Bubba Culling Indicator Set

Every dedicated tournament angler needs a good fish culling system. Bubba’s system is simple, easy to use, and helps anglers make smart, fast decisions when there’s too many keepers in the live well. We love the simplicity of a balance beam to find the heavier of the two fish. Bubba builds high-quality products which last a long time, and the simple lip clips won’t harm bass while in the live well. —T.S.

Z-Man Chatterbait Elite EVO Bladed Jig

This chatterbait previously won the best freshwater hard bait category at ICAST and is already a proven search bait. We love the detail of the eyes on the jighead here—it adds to the life-like action and appearance. Combine that with an excellent skirt and hook, and it’s a winning combination all around. Both largemouths and smallmouths will find the swimming action hard to resist. —T.S.

Striker Tournament Fishing Pants

I only became familiar with the Striker brand last year, and I love these tournament pants for most fishing scenarios. They’re built with a nylon and spandex mix that makes these pants lightweight, flexible, and extremely comfortable. More importantly, they wick away sweat and moisture quickly, allowing fast drying. The waistband also doesn’t dig. Thus far, these pants have proven extremely rugged. However, they still have a casual appearance that makes them appropriate for use beyond fishing. —T.S.

Strike King KVD Spinnerbait

It’s hard to go wrong with the flash and vibration of a spinnerbait for big bass. Every angler can use more of these classic baits. We like Strike King’s spinnerbaits as natural bass killers. Designed by bass fishing legend Kevin VanDam, these baits are tough and will catch bass when all others fail. Strike King offers these spinnerbaits in plenty of size and color options for bass fishing anywhere in the country. —T.S.

Berkley F19 Flipping Jig

Jigs are incredibly versatile lures for fishing. A few years ago, Berkley found a way to bake their popular Powerbait formula into the skirts of their jigs. The result is that fish will hold onto the jig longer, giving more time to set the hook. These jigs are also quite affordable compared to some other options available today. That makes it affordable to gift several to the bass angler in your life in different sizes and colors to fit any scenario. I also love the Fusion 19 hooks on these jigs. They’re sharp, and stick better than most other stock hooks. —T.S.
